04      Holidays and Socialization

As we are approaching to yet another year-end, there are holidays after holidays, after holidays.

Whether it is Eid al-Fitr, New Year's Eve or Day, Christmas, Chinese New Year, Thanksgiving, Easter, Fourth of July, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Hannukah, Rosh Hashanah, Kwanzaa, Diwali — we have not even mentioned other important days like anniversary or birthdays yet — there are two things which are related from one to another. They are holidays and socialization. When one comes up, the other follows.

Cheers!

If you are not a big fan of socializing with people, your world is doomed. That was a joke, of course. But in a way or another, it could be a pain in the neck if you fall into the anti-social category. It can be a dilemma.

Socialization is an active participation in human society, involving interaction of the individuals.

Apparently not everyone is fond of being social among others, although there are others who are. But sometimes we feel it unnecessary to go through the whole socialization ritual. For instance, when invited to a family dinner, you could imagine one has to be ready to answer a whole lot of questions of the what, when, where, who, whom and why. A question of “What’s new?” is a definite.

Join in!

So, tell me again, why do we still go to the same Christmas dinner at the same location at the same time? Why do we still have the same Turkey at the same dinner table with the same crowd? Why do we still get together on holidays each year, years after years?

Because it is the only time, as mentioned above, to get together; the only time to fill in each other on how things are; the only time to cherish those moments when we still have one another.
Because we care for the people that we are related to. Because those are the only times we get to see them when everyone is still around.

La Fiesta

What is once-a-year-socialization compared to good feelings from the ones that care for us? It is definitely worth every pain-in-the-neck to bear yet another “What’s new?” question.
