02      I Heart New York
A P R

Grabbed hold of a subway car, and after a rocking, reeling, rolling ride, I landed up on the downtown side; Greenwich Village.

It is Spring in New York. For all we know, New York is at one of its bests during Spring season. When new leaves start peeking out. When the weather begins warming up. When people commence their outdoor activities all over again.

For as long as I have been here, I have written about New York — New York City, to be more specific — many, many times. But New York never ceases to amaze me. It never stops entertaining me. The City is all the reason why we do not want to leave it and live somewhere else.

Granted I was not born as a local. But it is in New York that I met a true friend — the one friend in need is a friend indeed. Even though with her living in another state and me still being here but we still keep in touch as if we were neighbors.

It is in New York that I experience love — the one that makes my heart start pounding each time I see him. The one that I make my time for, regardless of my hectic schedules. For I might be a sucker for love but it keeps my spirit well and alive.

It is in New York that I feel grateful each day I live here. In this case, everytime I see a less fortunate person without home, clothes, food, money, or place to go to, as sad as it sounds, I feel grateful for what I have. Although I might not be one of the Vanderbilts, it is simply gratifying to be able to live in a descent manner. With a place I can call home. With enough food on the table. With a bank account. With a capability of going out to fancy dinner every now and then.

It is in New York that I discovered you — yes, you! You showed me what life was all about, how a good person should have been, how to live a simple life, what to expect when you least expected, where to grab a fabulous bite, where to find a good live music, why to think first before saying things, how not to hurt anyone’s feeling by stating nothing at all, why not to say anything if one did not have anything nice to say, how to life the way it should have been. Last but not least, you gave me the chance to feel, taste, experience the beauty of New York City which lives well in you.

I thank and heart you.

In New York I found a friend to drown out the other voices.”
